Advanced learning in the K-8 grade levels is a critical building block for later access to and success in advanced opportunities in high school, college and the professional workforce.
Yet instruction beyond grade level standards for students who could benefit is often given little thought or attention. Intently focused on getting all students across the proficiency line, school districts have ignored what should happen for students once they get to proficiency and beyond.
The aim of this blog is to add a voice and another viewpoint to broader education discussions. It intends to encourage schools districts to move beyond just celebrating high levels of academic accomplishment to recognizing their responsibility to provide advanced level instruction to students who could benefit. Students of all learning levels deserve to receive instruction targeted to the level they need and this includes advanced learners and students with advanced learning potential.
